Endgame

Well, it's official. Melissa and I are going to the hospital tomorrow morning to have our child.

At our appointment at the doctor's this afternoon, Violet's progress had improved, only slightly. Our doctor said that Melissa is a little more effaced and about 3 cm dilated. He also said that Violet has moved down significantly to the zero station.

After the exam, we talked about our options. The doc said it would be wise to have the baby earlier instead of later. Melissa and I asked him, almost simultaneously, "earlier meaning this week, right?" His reply startled us, but it also pleasantly reminded us of the reality we're about to face. We had to choose between tomorrow, April 2nd or Friday April 4th. Melissa looked to me and she already knew that I wanted Violet born sooner rather than later, and I reassured her that this is a decision that we need to make, not just me. Melissa suggested that Friday the 4th would be cool because of 4+4=08. Our doctor quickly added, 2X4=08 is just as cool. Our doc has powers... most of which come from his mustache.

Melissa and I are in the midst of packing our bags and getting ready to haul ourselves out the door at 5AM to be at the hospital by 6AM. Violet will be in our arms and in our lives in a matter of hours. Melissa and I are in a state of shock and giddy excitement. I never knew I was capable of having the feelings I'm having right now. Words can't express...

To celebrate our last moment of pure independence as a married couple, Melissa and I treated ourselves to dinner at Weber Grill in Schaumburg. We were so stunned by today's events that we forgot to mention to the staff that today is Melissa's birthday therefore missing out on the free dessert...typical.

I'll be updating the blog live at the hospital, so please check back frequently for updates and images.

Tomorrow is the first big step we're taking on a whole new perspective on life.

Thanks to all who are taking the time to share it with us.
